New Draganflyer X4-C and Draganflyer Guardian Helicopters Serve to Protect and Inspect

Draganflyer Guardian

The Draganflyer X4-C and Guardian helicopters are tools which allow the user to work more efficiently in areas such as industrial inspection, wildlife protection, aerial photography, 3D terrain mapping, agriculture, research, search and rescue, and public safety.

Saskatoon, SK (PRWEB) January 14, 2014

Today Draganfly Innovations releases two new multirotor helicopters, the X4-C and the Guardian. These quadrotor aircraft are built to carry high megapixel cameras and transmit the live video feed back to the operator. Both aircraft share the same frame, with the Guardian sporting more powerful motors and a larger battery, giving it a higher payload capacity.

The X4-C and Guardian quadrotor helicopters are designed, manufactured, and hand assembled in North America by Draganfly Innovations. Their size is 71cm (28 inches) in diameter and 25cm (10 inches) in height. The versatility of both models makes them suited for use by safety and rescue, researchers, inspectors, experimenters, educators, photographers, or anyone needing an airborne video and photo system.

The main battery is quick-swappable allowing unlimited end to end flights (given adequate spare batteries and chargers). All payloads feature the new Draganfly 1/4 turn quick connect system. Optional payloads currently include a 2-axis brushless stabilized GoPro Hero 3+ mount for optimal video and a 1-axis brushless stabilized 20MP Sony QX100 mount with remote zoom for optimal stills. Payloads feature real-time digital video downlinks and recording of the video or images to an onboard SD card or the handheld controller.

Features of the airframe shared by the X4-C and Guardian include the wide stance landing gear which prevents tip over during takeoff and landing, rugged carbon fiber construction, automated GPS position hold, altitude hold, and automated fail-safes for Auto-Land and Return-to-Home. The controller features a direct sunlight viewable touch screen, live aircraft telemetry, audible system warnings, and a wireless “buddy system” for connecting an optional additional controller during flight training or when having a second person act as camera operator. Visually, both the X4-C and Guardian look similar, but the Guardian’s more powerful motors and larger battery give it a 400g payload capacity vs the 300g payload capacity of the X4-C.

The X4-C and Guardian helicopters are highly capable for applications such as aerial photography, industrial inspection, 3D terrain mapping, wildlife protection, agriculture, research, search and rescue, and public safety. Each system includes a free Lil’ Draganflyer miniature quadrotor helicopter for flight training to prepare the user for the feel of a quadrotor helicopter.

The Guardian system comes with a military grade transport case, which holds the aircraft and all of the accessories needed for the operator to be ready to go at any time. The only steps needed before takeoff are to snap the landing struts in place, attach the 1/4 turn quick release payload, and install the battery. It only takes a matter of minutes to unpack and start flying.

Draganfly Innovations, manufacturer of the first civilian small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS) to be credited with saving a life, designs Draganflyer helicopters, the best aerial vehicles in the world, along with Draganview control software. A recognized technology and industry leader, Draganfly shapes the aerial imaging and public safety revolution with its gyro stabilized camera mounts. Draganfly has reinvented the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle and is defining the emergency services market with the Draganflyer X4-C and Draganflyer Guardian.

August 24, 2012 – For one Victoria photographer, new hardware is radically changing the way he does business.

Aerial photographer Russ Heinl, who has made a long career of shooting from helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft – including a seven year stint as the Canadian Forces Snowbirds’ photographer – finds his feet on solid ground a lot more these days now that he’s added an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to his arsenal.

RC Helicopter Wireless Video & Telemetry Base Station by Draganfly

Draganfly Innovations just released a new video today that demonstrates what their wireless video & telemetry base station can do when used with their Draganflyer RC Helicopters. This base station is built into a military grade case and features a quad diversity antenna system that provides the best reception. The Dragan Eye Pro 5.8 GHz Quad diversity receiver built into this base station auto-selects the best signal by using a combination of video signal quality analysis and received signal strength.

When this base station is combined with a lap top the Draganfly Wireless Video & Telemetry Base Station you can view video and telemetry from the helicopter in real time. Dragan View software ships with the base station and provides a lot of added features.

When you are using one of the Draganflyer Helicopters to take pictures, the GPS information is recorded. You can then use the Dragan View software to show you a 3D representation of your flight path on Google Earth™, showing you where you took the individual pictures. With in Google Earth™ you can click on the thumbnail of the picture to bring up a full size version. Along the top of the full size version the longitude, latitude, and altitude information is displayed.

The wireless video & telemetry base station also provides you with an analog video out. This means you can connect it to an external monitor so others can see what the helicopter sees in real time. With the video also being sent to the lap top you can use an application like Snap Security to stream your video to your iPhone. Draganfly Innovations wireless video & telemetry base station is truly a neat piece of gear to have.

Draganflyer RC Helicopter used for Urban Traffic Police Investigation

Draganfly Innovations assisted the Saskatoon Police Service with collecting evidence at the scene of a traffic accident on December 7 2009. Despite the cold temperature of -28°C / -18 ° F, -36° C / -33° F with wind chill.

Using the Draganflyer X6 UAV RC Helicopter to take aerial pictures of the scene provides the police with clear evidence to use in their investigation. Because the Draganflyer X6 can be rapidly deployed the police are able to minimize the amount of time the road way had to be closed from traffic. It is far quicker and easier for the police to use the Draganflyer X6 than to use a conventional aircraft or boom truck.

Watch the video below which was taken at the scene

This is not the first time the Draganflyer X6 UAV RC Helicopter has been used by the Saskatoon Police Service. On May 28 2009 the Draganflyer X6 saw its first operation use in traffic collision photography.

Both the Ontario Provincial Police and the Saskatoon Police Service have been approved by Transport Canada to use the Draganflyer X6 in their daily operations. Recently the Draganflyer X6 and the Ontario Provincial Police were featured in Blueline magazine. Blueline magazine is the premiere Canadian Law Enforcement magazine.

The Draganflyer X6 has also received approval by the United States Federal Aviation Authority in the form of a certificate of authority (COA) to be operated by the Mesa County Sheriff for use in their policing operations.

UAV RC Helicopters are becoming extremely useful tools for police agencies. They have the benefits of reducing the cost of obtaining aerial photographs in evidence gathering as well as being very quick to deploy. By being able to be deployed quickly they help the police gather evidence faster and in the case of traffic accidents allow the police to get traffic moving again sooner.

    1. capture the video in a digital format
    2. open up the video in an editor
    3. move the slider so you are displaying the frame you want
    4. copy the frame
    5. paste into a photo editing program
    6. save the image in the format of you choice

An example of an RC helicopter using aerial video camera is the Draganflyer SAVS.
